Are Your Elderly Parents Prepared?

We recently had the honor of being featured on FoxValleyMom.com in the article “5 Legal Documents Your Parents Need Now” contributed by our very own attorney Colleen Ventura. Since we're in the business of helping families, we're usually very curious when a direct request comes in from an editor to cover a specific topic, like this one did. So we asked FoxValleyMom.com Founder and President Ann (DiCristofano) Twite if she had a personal reason that motivated the topic about parenting your elderly parents. She did, and she gave us her permission to share it. It's likely her story will hit home for you in some way.

Wills on a Shoestring November 4th, 2010

Wills on a Shoestring

When Mommy on a Shoestring author Beth Engelman completed a DIY online will a while back, she needed to hire family friend to fix the mistakes that she made. It’s no wonder she eagerly featured Smarter Will this month on her popular syndicated blog as a great DIY alternative—to help save other moms from making the same mistakes she made. Thanks for the feature, Beth!

Writing a Will, With a Lawyer Looking Over Your Shoulder

The New York Times featured Smarter Will as a great alternative to DIY wills in its article “Writing a Will, With a Lawyer Looking Over Your Shoulder.” The concept that an online will does not necessarily equal a DIY will is starting to catch on and we’re proud to help spread the word (and represent Chicago in the Big Apple).

WGN Features Smarter Will in Focus on Family Segment September 8th, 2010

Healthcare Proxy and HIPAA Release Forms for College Students

Smarter Will’s Anthony Perrelli was the featured guest this week on the WGN Midday News. In the segment, Anthony advised parents to help their college-aged children prepare for the worst by completing healthcare proxy and HIPAA release forms. These legal documents are essential for college “kids” who are technically adults, but still need a parent’s help when facing an emergency.

Q&A: Law Firm Experiments With Do-It-Yourself Wills

Smarter Will is the brainchild of Anthony Perrelli, a partner at Lincolnshire-based law firm Hedeker & Perrelli, Ltd. It’s a Web site that aims to compete with do-it-yourself legal forms provider LegalZoom by offering an affordable and semiautomated online process for creating wills. Clients answer a series of questions online, but instead of automatically generating a will, Smarter Will’s software feeds the answers to an attorney at Hedeker & Perrelli who reviews the documents for accuracy.

A&E Documentary on Family Inheritance Battles August 5th, 2010

A&E Documentary on Family Inheritance Battles

We've been approached by producers of a new A&E documentary series about settling family inheritance issues. They are looking for a family who is currently in conflict over inherited property like artwork, jewelry or cars due to a will that wasn’t specific enough, or no will or estate planning at all (which excludes our current clients). The benefit to the family–besides 15 minutes of fame–is that the show will connect you with estate professionals like us to mediate and help correct the conflict. An Pennsylvania family is preferred.

If you fit that profile and your family is interested in auditioning for the show, let us know by contacting us.
